Cold Day

Posted on Mon Jun 22nd, 2020 @ 2:54pm by Patriot James MacIntyre

Mission: Episode #1 - A New Year
Location: MacIntyre Plantation
Timeline: December 31st, 1772

James took in a deep breath of the crisp and cold New England air. He let out a sigh and watched his breath form. He looked around the barren and snow covered fields. In just 3 months the weather would be warm enough for him to start planting this the new year's crops.

Sarah stepped out onto their front porch, "James, darling, dinner will be done soon."

James smiled, "Thank you dear. I will be along momentarily. Have the children set the table."

Sarah smiled and nodded as she disappeared back into the house.

Their house had become a very cozy home in the past several years. Even though the various acts passed by parliament had almost put a halt to that.
The Townshend acts increased the cost of paint for their home and put a large dampener on their ledger.

Their home wasn't large, but it wasn't small. James liked to think of it as a simple modest 2 story, 5 bedroom home.

He stepped inside and moved into the dinning area.
"How are the fields looking?" Sarah asked as she started bringing the food in.
"They'll be ready when spring hits. I think this new year is going to be a good season." James responded as he watched his children run into the room and sit in their seats.
"Children, calm down." Sarah said as she glared at the children.
All three had red hair like James and had his freckles.
With moans of discontentment forming from the children's mouths James took action, "Gideon. Constance. Dorthy. All three of you have been told. What are the rules?"
All three let out a sigh of protest before saying, almost in unison, "Listen to Father and Mother."
James smiled, "Thats right, now before we start dinner, lets give thanks. Are we ready?"

With nods from the children and Sarah James continued, "Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen."

James took in a breath and then looked around at his family and smiled, "Let us eat."
